Tracey Clark is a fabulous photographer, author, and teacher. It was my lucky day when I signed up for my first online class with her. Now, many classes later, I can say that I have grown as a person, a photographer, and an artist from these experiences. You must check out her blog! One of the recent prompts for class was entitled “Heavy Metal”. In my search around the house for shiny metal objects to photograph, I was able to capture a small glimpse of ordinary beauty. Another one of my favorite artists is Kim Klassen. She too, is a beautiful artist. Her online courses in photoshop and the textures she creates are just magnificent! Taking her classes is heavenly. My images, along with Kim’s Photoshop textures, really captured the dazzling beauty of the metals.

Recently, my point of view broadened by changing my vantage point. One of my favorite activities is to explore all things urban. The Windy City is no exception. Just me and my Nikon embraced a journey around Chicago. Although there are swanky buildings on Michigan, stunning views of the river, and distinctive skyscrapers, that wasn’t what caught my eye. The majestic views I captured by changing my perspective was most captivating about the city for me. “You must look within for value, but must look beyond for perspective.” Denis Waitley
Not sure when my love affair with bridges began. All I know is that there is something so intriguing about these unique passageways. It seems their true purpose is to connect things that need connecting. As famous as the Golden Gate Bridge may be, an ordinary bridge on the family farm can be just as grandiose. Don’t you have so many questions every time you approach a bridge?
On a recent trip to Madison County in southern Iowa, it became so clear that their famous covered bridges had stories to tell. Right in the center of the heartland, sat six original covered bridges build in the 1800′s. At one time, there were eighteen of these beauties. An unblemished countryside was the PERFECT backdrop. Although they became famous by the Clint Eastwood movie Bridges of Madison County, for me, they are even more symbolic than that.
There is significance to life’s passageways. We have bridges to understanding, bridges of support, bridges to peace, and bridges to the future. Don’t de-value the journey. Embrace it. Build a bridge today!
